High-bay fittings get a lift from Panasonic

The fitting out of a new Urban Outfitters store in Temple Bar Dublin has included the use of 14 luxlift devices from Panasonic Electric Works to provide ease of access to high bay luminaires without the use of access equipment.
The main feature of the store is a large architectural staircase linking the two floors, with a platform between the floors acting as a half landing to form a retail island. High bay light fittings above this landing are mounted at around 4m, thus making access for maintenance difficult.
"With the fittings mounted so high they would normally require a tower for access and this would have been difficult because of the staircase," explained Ashley Greensides of consulting engineers Buro Happold. "As part of our CDM responsibilities we have to design for ongoing maintenance and the luxlift was the obvious choice for these areas," he added.
The luxlift allows light fittings weighing up to 20kg to be securely fastened to its electric lift mechanism and then automatically lowered and raised for heights of up to 20 metres. This eliminates the need for heavy scissors lifts, high ladders or scaffold - thus reducing maintenance costs and minimising disruption to customers. "I am sure that the luxlift fittings will be very beneficial to the store," said store manager Ashlyn McNally.
Buro Happold has now placed another order for luxlift units for a new Urban Outfitters store in Glasgow. This has the same staircase feature, plus the ceiling above the second floor is also very high.
